"Staff was very professional and kind"

"The nurses were extremely busy and one of them kept saying "I am very busy and I have other patients I need to be seeing" repeatedly when I was trying to find out why nobody returned my phone call to let me know if I could get some lab work closer to home like I had done in the past. It is a long drive from my home to the doctor's office in Dubuque and the trip, especially when there is a lot of road construction going on, is hard on my back and neck. There is a general lack of understanding what a difference it makes for patients who have a longer way to go and can't just drop in. McNamara tries better than most and she is a delight to work with. But I have never seen that department so busy before. Now if they could just come up with a better system of dealing with patients who call in. Getting info to patients in a timely manner is very important. Some doctors don't even try to keep the patient properly informed. There is no time for any meaningful discussions in the appointments if it isn't a simple thing. The new website is a big help although I don't think patients are told about it by their drs very often and security concerns will be a problem. Many older people do not have computers or smart phones and/or cannot keep up with the adjustments that are constantly needed to deal with possible security risks. It is much much harder to log-in to my bank or other accounts than it is to get into my medical info. Not good for patient privacy. McNamara is nice to work with as she is always trying to help and does not have an "ego" problem that would cause her to keep things to herself like some drs do there, especially one or more male drs in this big place. Also, this office is bursting at the seams for space, which adds to the stress for everyone. I just want to repeat that I greatly appreciate the additional info on the website. At least I now can finally find out some things that other drs did not want to bother telling me over the last few years, even if the results are negative the patient needs to know. No dr has the right to assume the patient should just do as they say without the patient being able to make an informed decision due to lack of info. After all, knowing something isn't the problem is just as important as finding out what is. I believe Iowa recently changed to law requiring that drs provide the patient more info regarding their medical situation and that is why this huge breakthrough. Another dr in the building came right out saying he thought the patient should just do what the dr says because the dr knows more than the patient. He should be gone!"
