If the doctor can not keep to the stated appointment time then they shouldn't schedule appointments so close together. People have other things to take care of in their lives and that is why they schedule appointments. If I would have been 35 minutes late my appointment would have been canceled. I didn't get refunded my deductible for the doctor being late"

"The system the cardiology department uses is rigid regarding late arrivals. One minute after the 15-minute late time is inflexible and not serving patients. The receptionists follow the protocol directed by the manager. They try very hard to accommodate. They are over-worked and short-handed every time I go in for an appointment. The nurse and doctor are stellar. They all are the best but the structure of the department lacks adequate receptionists and flexibility."

"Appointment ran smoothly and on time. I had sent Dr. Loc previous medical information from a recent stay at [REDACTED], to catch him up on a recent episode. He had received and he had a plan. I expressed some issues I was having being on a large amount of prednisone. He felt with the amlodipine he had ordered for me at the time of my angioplasty in 2024, a Lasix would be appropriate to relieve some of my swelling issues and feeling a fullness issues. Would schedule labs for a week to see how I was doing on that and my potassium level. Since patient portal is going over to [REDACTED], I'm hoping I can still connect and communicate well with him in the future. It was the first day of the new system and very interesting! Especially in the pharmacy area! Receptionists were very patient, also with the process also."

"First let me say that Dr. Loc and his nurse Maddie were just wonderful. They always are. Ten stars for them! This has nothing to do with Dr. Loc, but there is a tendency for receptionists at Medical Associates to be cold and unfriendly and leave patients standing there for way too long while they stare at their computer screens and ignore the person directly in front of them. They leave patients feeling like they are a bother and an annoyance. I'm not speaking about the receptionists at the appointment desks. They are always nice. But the ones out in front are often the worst part of the interaction with Medical Associates. Since it is the first contact, it sets the tone for the entire facility. Here's how it should be done, IMO: 1) Always immediately acknowledge the patient and try to express at least a little warmth, even when talking to someone on the phone or in the middle of a task. Don't just sit there and ignore them until the task is finished. The patient who is standing there should take priority. 2) Greet people, even when on the phone or in the middle of a task. Maybe say something like, "Hi, what's your first name?" I say, "Bill". They say, "Sorry Bill, I should have this wrapped up in a minute or so, is that OK?" 3) Maybe smile? There are some really nice receptionists, like in oncology, but they tend to know their patients by name. And the receptionists at the appointment desk in the back are always nice and helpful, but the front desk people often seem to impress upon patients that they are a bother and an annoyance and unimportant. I have encountered this frequently, but it stood out to me yesterday when I went to the appointment desk after my visit with the doctor. There was nobody at the appointment desk, so I walked out front where a lady with short gray hair was doing something on the computer. I stood there and stood there. Eventually a very nice lady came to the appointment desk and said she could help me. She was incredibly friendly and great to deal with, and I told her she was great. So what went wrong? I assume the appointment desk person took a break, so rather than tell me that, the lady in front just left me standing there like I was unimportant, a bother, and an annoyance. I hope this helps, but please understand this is not just a cardiology issue, it's pretty widespread - much less so on the west campus - more so on the east. I just happened to encounter it yesterday, so it was on my mind."
