New Provider Joins Medical Associates Cardiothoracic Surgery Department

Medical Associates Clinic is pleased to announce the arrival of Board-Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Jose Torres, MD, to our Cardiothoracic Surgery Department.

Dr. Torres received his medical degree and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM, and Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. He completed his Surgical residency and Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. He is also fluent in Spanish and English.

Most recently, Dr. Torres worked at Hannibal Regional Healthcare System in Hannibal, MO, where he played a key role in developing and starting the open-heart surgery program. Prior to that, he was part of Genesis Heart Institute in Davenport, IA. He further expanded his expertise in cardiovascular care through experience at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA, and Phoenix Cardiac Surgery in Prescott, AZ.

“I joined the heart team at Medical Associates because it offers the opportunity to join a community of excellent healthcare professionals, who have the same goal of providing excellent patient care. I am excited to be here,” said Dr. Torres.

With over a decade of treating various heart and vascular conditions, Dr. Torres is currently the only heart surgeon in the Tri-State area. As a member of the Medical Associates Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, he provides a range of surgical treatments including heart bypass surgery, valve repair and replacement, ascending aortic aneurysm, thoracotomies, and video assisted thoracic surgery.
