Managing Your Care

Just how does Medical Associates Health Plans assure your care is coodinated effectively? The following are some of the many ways we make it happen on a daily basis.

  • Each day, our Chief Medical Officer and Registered Nurses review all members’ hospital admissions, to assure that benefits are in place and care is being provided in the most appropriate setting. Medical Associates nurses are located in Dubuque and Iowa City to follow the daily progress of our hospitalized patients.
  • Each day, our Chief Medical Officer and Registered Nurses respond to over 350 phone calls, assisting our members and providers with coordination of care and benefits. This can range from preauthorization of referrals and hospital admissions to planning discharges from the hospital, transfers to skilled medical facilities, in-home care, and rental of medical equipment.
  • Each day, our 24-Hour HELP Nurses respond to over 200 phone calls, guiding our members who have questions or urgent medical problems by providing advice or directing them to the appropriate physician, facility, or resource for their needs.
  • Each day, Medical Associates providers follow ‘best practice measures’ established by our Quality Improvement and Utilization Management Committees to insure the highest quality of care to our members.
  • Each day, our Pharmacy Benefits Coordinator responds to questions from pharmacists, physicians, and members regarding prescription alternatives.
